Course Manager's Guide to Back Safety Demonstrations
and Practice Exercises

Introduction

The Back Safety computer based training course is designed to make the training of employees more effective and efficient, regardless of the number of people you must train. While the computer based portion of the course will provide trainees with back safety knowledge, they must also have an opportunity to the back safety skills presented in this course.

Demonstration and Practice Session 1

Prerequisites

1. Trainees should complete the Back Safety computer based training course.

2. Arrange to have examples of equipment (i.e. pushcarts. handtrucks, and dollies) used to move heavy loads in your facility.

What You Should Demonstrate

1. Show trainees the correct procedure for lifting a heavy load.

2. Show trainees the correct procedure for using pushcarts, handtrucks, and dollies.

3. Conduct a tour of your facility, pointing out where pushcarts, handtrucks, and dollies are stored.

What Trainees Should Practice and Be Able to Do

1. Demonstrate the correct procedure for lifting a heavy load.

2. Demonstrate the correct procedure for using pushcarts, handtrucks, and dollies.

3. Identify the locations where pushcarts. handtrucks, and dollies are stored.

Summary

1. Summarize the session and emphasize the importance of back safety.

2. Answer any questions trainees may have.

3. Distribute any supplemental printed material you may feel is important.
